CAL FIRE Challenge Coin Description

CAL FIRE Challenge Coin

Honor Service. Celebrate Sacrifice. Preserve California Firefighting Legacy.

This CAL FIRE Challenge Coin is a premium collectible inspired by the brave men and women of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), who protect lives, property, and natural resources across the Golden State. Featuring iconic fire service and California symbols — the CAL FIRE emblem, Maltese cross, fire apparatus imagery, and the mission of “No One Left Behind” — this coin embodies the core values of Courage, Commitment, and Service that define California’s firefighters .

The challenge coin tradition has deep roots in military and fire service history, dating back to World War I when medallions were used to identify and honor service members . Today, fire departments across California use challenge coins to build camaraderie, recognize achievements, honor fallen members, and raise funds for critical causes . This coin honors their service — from responding to devastating wildfires to protecting communities across the state.
