Mortally wounded by enemy fire, Peralta pulled an enemy grenade to his body, absorbing the lethal blast to save the lives of his fellow Marines . The destroyer that bears his name was commissioned on July 29, 2017, and serves as a floating tribute to his legacy, equipped with the Aegis Baseline 9 Combat System including Ballistic Missile Defense capability .
