USN USS Lassen DDG-82 Challenge Coin – Product Details

About This Coin

Celebrate the distinguished service, combat readiness, and naval heritage of the USS Lassen with the official USS Lassen (DDG-82) Challenge Coin. Named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Commander Clyde Everett Lassen—a naval aviator who risked his life to rescue downed pilots in Vietnam—this coin captures the courage, commitment, and excellence that define the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and its crew . The coin evokes a sense of pride, duty, and maritime tradition, making it a perfect keepsake for sailors, veterans, and naval enthusiasts who value the legacy of America’s surface warfare fleet .

Core Features

1. Ship’s Crest & Naval Destroyer Motifs
The coin features beautifully rendered engravings inspired by the official USS Lassen (DDG-82) ship’s crest—think detailed anchor imagery, the ship’s motto, and the distinct silhouette of a guided-missile destroyer cutting through ocean swells . Each element is depicted with artistic precision, whether it’s the soaring eagle representing naval aviation heritage, the crossed missiles symbolizing strike capability, or the stars honoring Commander Lassen’s Medal of Honor valor . The design captures not just the ship’s likeness, but its mission and spirit, rendered in a style that feels both authoritative and timeless .

2. Antique & Military Finishes with Premium Craftsmanship
Minted from high-quality metal, the coin is available in antique silver, antique gold, aged bronze, or classic nickel finishes that enhance its naval appeal . The antique patina adds depth and character, making each piece feel like a treasured heirloom passed down through deployments and duty stations . High-relief die-struck engraving ensures every detail—from the ship’s hull number (DDG-82) to the fine lines of the crest—stands out with crisp precision . The durable construction and scratch-resistant epoxy coating ensure it remains a pristine keepsake through years of daily pocket carry, uniform display, or shadow box presentation .

3. Narrative of Naval Service & Combat Readiness
More than a collectible, this coin tells the story of the USS Lassen and its crew—from its commissioning in 2001 to its deployments in support of ballistic missile defense, surface warfare, and maritime security operations . It evokes the spirit of the modern U.S. Navy: the sailors who stand watch on the bridge, the engineers who keep the gas turbines running, and the officers who command with integrity . Whether you are a plankowner, a deployed sailor, a Navy veteran, or a family member supporting a loved one’s service, this coin connects you to the enduring legacy of the USS Lassen .
