USN USS IWO JIMA Challenge Coin Description

USN USS IWO JIMA Challenge Coin – Product Details

About This Coin

This official USS IWO JIMA (LHD-7) Challenge Coin pays tribute to the legendary Wasp-class amphibious assault ship named in honor of one of World War II’s most iconic battles . Commissioned on June 30, 2001, this mighty warship has seen action in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Task Force Katrina, embodying the “Uncommon Valor” that became synonymous with the flag-raising on Mount Suribachi . Crafted with exceptional attention to detail, this coin captures the spirit of the 844-foot vessel that supports a mix of 30 helicopters and 6-8 AV/8B Harrier II aircraft, displacing over 40,000 tons fully underway .

Core Features

1.Authentic Ship & Battle Heritage Design
The coin prominently features a detailed rendering of the USS Iwo Jima on the obverse, capturing the mighty silhouette of this Wasp-class amphibious assault ship in precise, high-relief detail. The reverse bears the official ship emblem, with the powerful motto “Uncommon Valor” honoring the courage and commitment of all who serve aboard—both past and present . Design elements may incorporate the iconic flag-raising imagery and naval amphibious warfare symbols.

2.Premium Craftsmanship with Deep-Relief Distinction
Minted in a brass alloy with an antique bronze finish, this coin was struck using special “splash” dies for exceptional heft and depth of detail . The deep-relief striking ensures that every feature—from the ship’s superstructure to its flight deck—stands out with remarkable clarity. Each coin measures 1.75 inches (44mm) in diameter and is officially licensed by the Department of the Navy .

3.Narrative of Valor & Amphibious Excellence
More than a collectible, this coin tells the story of a warship named for the bloodiest battle of the Pacific theater—a ship that carries forward the legacy of the Marines who raised the flag on Iwo Jima and the sailors who continue to project power from the sea. It serves as a portable tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and “Uncommon Valor” that defines all who serve in the amphibious warfare community.

Core Value for Clients

1.For USS Iwo Jima Crew & Naval Personnel
A powerful emblem of pride and identity for the thousands of sailors and Marines who have served aboard LHD-7. It honors their shared mission, strengthens the bond among shipmates, and serves as a lasting reminder of their contribution to this storied warship’s legacy.

2.For Command Morale & Amphibious Recognition
An exceptional tool for commanding officers and chiefs to recognize outstanding performance, commemorate deployments, and reinforce the values of courage and commitment that define the ship’s namesake. Perfect for re-enlistments, promotions, and underway celebrations.

3.For Defense & Maritime Industry Partners (B2B)
A distinguished B2B corporate gift for defense contractors, shipbuilders, and technology partners supporting amphibious warfare programs. Its powerful narrative demonstrates deep respect for naval heritage and strengthens relationships with stakeholders in the amphibious enterprise.
